![]() ![]() The Queens College Department of Physics offers the B.A., B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics, as well as a B.A. degree in Physics Education. Undergraduates in the Physics Department enjoy small classes taught by a distinguished faculty. They have the opportunity to participate in internationally recognized experimental and theoretical research programs in optics, magnetic thin films, polymer surfaces, quantum dots and nanowires, multiple quantum wells, and photonic integration. Graduates may pursue career opportunities in industrial and academic research, engineering, education, finance, and medicine. Students may participate in a pre-engineering program. Following two or three years at Queens College, students may transfer to most university engineering programs. Acceptance at Columbia University is automatic providing the student maintains a B average and is recommended by the Department. Students may also participate in the Science Teacher Career Program. The Program provides partial tuition reimbursement to prospective NYC high school science teachers. In addition to the traditional courses of mechanimcs, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, modern physics, and laboratory technique, the Department offers courses in astronomy, telecommunications, and the physics of music. Advanced undergraduates may obtain a combined B.A./M.A. degree, and can take graduate level courses on campus or at the Graduate Center in Manhattan. Undergraduates may participate in the active Physics Club, and are welcome at the weekly physics colloquium. |
